Dr. Jermaine Johnson is the Department Chair & Associate Professor of Criminal Justice at Lone Star College-University Park’s Criminal Justice program. He has over 11 years of law enforcement experience, eight of which he served in various capacities while with the New Orleans Police Department. In addition, he has been teaching for 17 years, 15 of which are in higher education.
Dr. Johnson has also worked within the Juvenile Justice System as a case manager and behavioral counselor for psychologically and physically abused youth. Dr. Johnson has written and authored contributions within the Encyclopedia of Criminology and Criminal Justice as well as his dissertation research on the "African American Worldview and Criminal Offending."
Dr. Johnson presented his research at the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences in 2017 and at the American Society of Criminology in 2018. Additional research includes an analysis of the School to Prison Pipeline and DMC in Texas and Factors that Influence Citizens’ Attitudes toward the Police.
Dr. Johnson has also been recognized for his teaching. He is the recipient of the 2019 & 2023 Lone Star College Faculty Excellence Award, the 2019 John & Suanne Roueche Excellence Award, and was the nominee of the Minnie Stevens Piper Foundation “Piper Professors of 2020” award.
